Congo Water Project

Target Area:

Initial Pilot Project: 52 villages of 10,000 people (Kete Tribe called Bakete)
Expansion Project: 420 villages of 100,000 people (Kete Tribe called Bakete).

Current Drinking Water Sources: Streams, Rivers, Creeks, Rain.

Water borne diseases spread by contamination of drinking water systems with the urine and faeces of infected animals or people that occur in the villages of Kete tribe where drinking water systems get their water from surface waters (rain, creeks, rivers, streams and lakes).
Water is plentiful from the sources of small rivers and streams, but not safe enough for children and communities in the villages.

Water Borne Diseases:

The related water borne diseases are cholera, shigella dysentery, malaria, diarrhea, and recently an outbreak of Ebola hemmorhagic in the entire region of West Kasai, the home of Kete tribe.

Clean Water Method:

The first choice to receive training for the purpose of launching the project is the use of BioSand filters that are the immediate solution to break the continued transmission of water borne diseases. The second choice will be the drilling of new wells as the solution for mothers and young girls who walk up to 10 miles every day to get unclean water for their families. In any case, BioSand filters are the solution to water borne diseases even with the construction of new wells.

Project Capacity:

1250 BioSand filters per 10,000 people
104 BioSand Filters per month.

Plan of Implementation:
We plan our first trip to Africa this summer to bring 4 Congolese people to be trained in Zambia through Seeds of Hope and then begin the implementation in the fall. The amount of the start up costs including the training is estimated at $5,000.00. You can make your donations to:
